Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria

WELCOME ADDRESS FROM THE REGISTRAR/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE TEACHERS REGISTRATION COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (TRCN)

On behalf of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), it is with immense pleasure and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you to the official website of the TRCN; the foremost regulatory body charged with professionalising, standardising, and enhancing the teaching profession in Nigeria.

As the Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN, I am honoured to lead a Council that plays such a critical role in shaping the future of education by ensuring that only qualified, competent, and professionally certified individuals are licensed to teach in our schools across the nation.

TRCN operates under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Education and is mandated by law to:

  1. Determine which teachers are qualified to be registered in Nigeria
  2. Maintain a register of qualified teachers and enforce standards in teaching
  3. Develop and enforce a code of ethics for the teaching profession
  4. Organise continuous professional development programmes for teachers and
  5. Promote excellence and professionalism in teaching and teacher education.

These responsibilities are central to TRCN's strategic vision of transforming teaching into a profession of first choice, where educators are not only respected but also well-trained, continually developed, and held to the highest professional standards.

VISION AND MISSION

Our vision is to ensure that teaching becomes a profession of choice, pride, and prestige in Nigeria.

Our mission is to register, license, and regulate teachers in both public and private educational institutions in Nigeria, and to accredit teacher education programmes to ensure professionalism and excellence in service delivery.

We believe that quality education begins with quality teachers, and that a nation's progress is deeply rooted in the strength of its educational system, particularly in the capacity, conduct, and competence of its teachers.

Through the implementation of the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) and rigorous registration protocols, TRCN has intensified efforts to ensure that only qualified individuals with the requisite pedagogical skills, academic background, and ethical grounding are licensed to practise as teachers. We also maintain a National Register of Teachers to identify, track, and regulate professional practice in line with global best practices.

In addition, TRCN regularly conducts monitoring and compliance checks in schools, provides capacity-building programmes, and collaborates with national and international education stakeholders to elevate the teaching profession to world-class standards.

In today's digital age, TRCN is embracing technology-driven innovations. Our online platforms allow for efficient teacher registration, license renewals, verification of registered teachers, and stakeholder engagement. This website serves as a gateway for transparency, accessibility, and communication between TRCN and our valued stakeholders, including teachers, institutions, researchers, policymakers, parents, and the general public.

Furthermore, as part of our commitment to improving the quality of teaching and learning in Nigerian classrooms, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), subject to the approval of the Federal Ministry of Education, will embark on the digitisation and contextualisation of schemes of work and lesson plans.

This initiative is designed to equip teachers with easily accessible, technology-driven instructional resources that are aligned with national curriculum standards and responsive to local learning contexts. By integrating digital tools and localised content into classroom practice, we aim to enhance instructional delivery, promote engagement, and ultimately raise educational outcomes across all levels of the system.

Whether you are a teacher seeking registration, a parent concerned about the quality of teaching in your child's school, an employer verifying the professional status of your staff, or a researcher exploring trends in teacher development in Nigeria, this platform is designed to serve your needs and support your aspirations.

You can be rest assured that we remain committed to:

  1. Promoting ethical practices and accountability in teaching
  2. Ensuring inclusive and equitable professional standards for teachers across Nigeria
  3. Strengthening teacher education institutions through accreditation and quality assurance
  4. Supporting teachers with continuous professional development opportunities and
  5. Advocating for the dignity and welfare of Nigerian teachers.

As you surf through our website, I encourage you to explore the resources, updates, and services we provided. Please note that your feedback, suggestions, and comments are valuable to us.

Let us remember that the work of nation-building begins in the classroom. At TRCN, we are resolute in our belief that every Nigerian child deserves a professionally trained, passionate, and certified teacher.

Therefore, on behalf of the TRCN's Governing Council, management, and staff, I welcome you once again and invite you to partner with us in building a stronger, more professional, and more respected teaching workforce in Nigeria.

Thank you.
