Last updated: 30 April 2026. This Cookie Policy is published alongside our Privacy Policy and forms part of TRCN's transparency obligations under Section 27 of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 and the General Application and Implementation Directive (GAID) 2025.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website you visit places on your device. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to the site owner. Some cookies last only for the duration of your visit (“session” cookies); others persist for a defined period (“persistent” cookies). This policy also covers similar technologies including local storage and session storage maintained by your browser.

Categories of cookies we use

We classify the cookies and similar storage we use into four categories. You can accept or decline non-essential categories using the consent banner shown on first visit. The site remains usable if you decline the non-essential categories.

1. Strictly necessary

Required for the site to function. These cannot be switched off.

How TRCN handles authentication:we deliberately store session and refresh tokens in your browser's localStorage rather than in cookies. Because tokens do not travel as cookies, the TRCN portals do not require traditional CSRF cookies for state-changing requests. The application sends the token explicitly in the Authorization header on each authenticated API call, which is not vulnerable to the cross-site request-forgery attacks that CSRF tokens are designed to prevent. You can clear these tokens at any time by signing out or by clearing browser storage for the TRCN portal you are using.

How to manage cookies

Re-open the consent banner at any time to change your decision:

You can also control non-essential cookies in three ways:

  1. TRCN consent banner.Clicking “Decline analytics” on the banner shown on first visit prevents the analytics and functional identifier cookies (_ga, _ga_J979XKQBB5, _gid) from being set. TRCN still records anonymous service-quality metrics (page-load times, error rates, traffic patterns aggregated by country and device class) as part of operating this mandatory government service; these metrics do not identify you and do not set a persistent cookie on your browser. This pattern follows Google Consent Mode v2 and is explicitly permitted by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission for government services where operational visibility is essential.
  2. Your browser. Most browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies. See aboutcookies.org for instructions per browser.
  3. Google Analytics opt-out. Install the official browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Note: blocking strictly-necessary cookies may prevent you from signing in to TRCN portals.

Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this policy from time to time as our cookie usage changes. Material changes will be highlighted on this page; we will not retroactively process previously-collected data under more permissive terms.
