Dr. Alimigbe A. Frances
Acting Director, Accreditation, Regulation and Teacher Development
The Accreditation, Regulation and Teacher Development (ARTD) Department accredits Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) providers, regulates professional development standards, and supports the continuous development of teachers across Nigeria.
The process generally follows these stages:
- Application / Registration
- Payment of prescribed fees
- Assessment of documents and training materials
- Accreditation inspection
- Approval and onboarding as an accredited provider
Step-by-Step Process
Before applying, your organization should normally have:
- CAC registration certificate
- Organizational profile
- Functional office address
- Defined training structure / programmes
- Qualified facilitators / resource persons
Most providers are NGOs, consulting firms, teacher training institutes, universities, EdTech organizations, or professional development partners.
TRCN requires supporting documents for assessment. Commonly requested documents include:
- CAC Certificate
- Memorandum & Articles / Constitution
- Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Company profile
- Proposed MCPD training modules / curriculum
- CVs of facilitators / trainers
- Evidence of office location
- Training timetable or implementation plan
- Evidence of previous training activities (if available)
Apply through the official MCPD portal — fill in your organizational details and upload the required documents.
TRCN uses the Remita payment platform for fees. After submission:
- Generate payment invoice / RRR
- Pay through Remita
- Upload or present evidence of payment
The exact fee may vary depending on the category / type of provider.
TRCN's Accreditation, Regulation and Teacher Development Department evaluates:
- Your training content
- Relevance to teacher development
- Capacity to deliver training
- Qualifications of facilitators
- Organizational credibility
They may request corrections or additional information.
As part of quality assurance before approval, TRCN shall conduct:
- Physical inspection of facilities
- Verification of office / training centres
- Validation of manpower and equipment
If successful, TRCN issues:
- Accreditation / approval letter
- Inclusion in the list of accredited MCPD providers
- Authority to conduct TRCN-recognized professional development programmes
You can then appear on the official accredited providers list.
Accredited providers are expected to:
- Maintain quality standards
- Deliver approved programmes only
- Keep participant records
- Issue valid participation evidence
- Support credit-points allocation processes
- Undergo periodic re-accreditation
