DEPARTMENTAL PROGRAMMES AND ACTIVITIES

  • Induction Protocol /internship Scheme/Mentoring to equip fresh graduates with requisite practical skills.
  • Accreditation, monitoring and supervision of teacher training institutions in Nigeria, notably Faculties and Institutes of Education in Universities, Colleges of Education, and Schools of Education in Polytechnics.
  • Assisting unqualified teachers in the system to get qualified quickly by mobilizing the teacher training institutions to develop and implement flexible but qualitative teacher education programmes for the teachers.
  • Registration and Accreditation of Programmes/ human Resources of Training Providers in the Country
  • Engagement in the Promotion, Interview and Evaluation of teacher competency in States
  • Enforcement and Compliance of TRCN mandates
  • Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) for registered teachers
  • Enforcement of professional conduct using the Teachers Code of Conduct (TCC), Teachers Investigation Panel (TIP), and Teachers Tribunal.
  • Prosecution of unqualified teachers in the Nigerian court of law.
  • Publication of a Register of professional teachers in Nigeria and distribution of same throughout the country.

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE DEPARTMENT:

  1. To ensure effectively regulated teaching profession in Nigeria

 

  1. To ensure set Standards/Quality Assurance Mechanism are Maintained in Education awarding Institutions through constant Monitoring, Supervision and Accreditation of courses in the Institutions.

 

 

  • To reduce attrition rate of education graduates by mounting Induction Protocol for Education Graduates

 

  1. To bridge knowledge gap and promote best practices by mounting Continuing Professional Development for In-service teachers on regular basis.

 

  1. To promote quality assurance among teachers by mounting MCPD Programmes

 

  1. To strengthen quality apparatus by ensuring Registration and Accreditation of MCPD Providers

 

  • To ensure Prompt; Effective and Efficient Service delivery at our Service Windows (State Offices) by Supervising and Monitoring of their activities

 

  • To ensure discipline and professional ethics are maintained by teachers in the discharge of their duties through the instrumentality of TIP and TB

 

 

DIVISIONS/ UNITS  NODAL OFFICERS AND ACTIVITIES

OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR

 1Head Regulations; Accreditation and Enforcement

 

  1. Taking charge of the implementation of all the provisions of TRCN Act 31 of 1993 regarding the regulation and control of the Teaching profession in Nigeria. These include the:
  2. Management of Induction protocol schemes for fresh Education graduates.
  • Coordination of accreditation, monitoring and supervision of teacher training institutions in Nigeria.
  1. Execution of continuous professional development of teachers;
  2. Execution of Teacher Training; Evaluation and Promotion in the States ;
  3. Coordination of the activities of the Teachers Investigating Panel and Teachers Tribunal;
  • Liaising between the Council and stakeholders ranging from Federal and State Ministries of Education and their agencies to proprietors of private schools in Nigeria, teachers’ associations and unions, non-governmental organizations, etc. towards the successful actualization of the provisions of the TRCN Act.
  • Developing and sustaining effective relationship with Teaching Councils and related agencies across the world and handling matters of professional standing of Nigerians.
  1. Representing the Council in high level professional and technical meetings, conferences, etc which include the National Council on Education, National Committees of Deans of Faculties of Education/Provosts of Colleges of Education/ etc.
  2. Building a robust partnership with the Defence sector (inclusive of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, etc) for the full professionalisation of teaching in schools under the sector.
  3. Coordination of the performance of and provision of leadership to the staff of the Regulations; Accreditation and enforcement Department at the TRCN Headquarters and TRCN Zonal and State Offices nationwide.

Directors Office

Registration/ Accreditation of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Providers (MCPD).

  1. Developing and sustaining effective relationship with MCPD providers
  2. Taking charge of the activities and ensuring efficient discharge of duties by staff of the division
  • Liaising with relevant agencies to ensure accreditation/ registration of MCPD providers.
  1. Develop instruments and tools for effective registration and accreditation exercise.
  2. Provide robust data base of MCPD providers anecdote.
  3. Develop assessment portfolios for MCPD providers.
  • Ensure the migration of credit unit from the MCPD to License platform for recording teachers training over time.

Provide avenue for measuring keep performance by MCPD providers

EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATION DIVISION

  1. Taking charge of the activities of the Division and ensuring that staff

        effectively discharge their duties.

  1. ii) Initiating ideas and strategies that will facilitate the achievement of the Divisional objectives.

iii)       Handling responsibilities assigned by the Director in respect of   

Professional Education and Accreditation matters in the Council which   may include meetings, workshops, seminars, conferences, accreditation, monitoring, and supervision of   programmes of teacher training institutions among others.

Education Officer 1-

Assisting the Head of the Education and Accreditation Division in administering the Division and ensuring that duties are effectively discharged.

  1. Initiating ideas and strategies that will facilitate the achievement of the divisional objectives.
  2. Sensitization of teacher training institutions in Nigeria about the accreditation, monitoring and supervision mandates of TRCN.
  • Ensuring effective participation of TRCN in the relevant meetings of the Committee of Deans and Directors of Education in Nigerian universities, Provosts of Colleges of Education and other key players in the teacher training institutions so as to develop synergy towards the effective accreditation, monitoring and supervision of their Education programmes.
  1. Assisting in coordinating and handling all correspondences relating to PDE.
  2. Assisting in coordinating of the activities and reports of accreditation panels and monitoring of all teacher training institutions in Nigeria.
  3. Maintenance of a database on all teacher training institutions in

 Nigeria with respect to their contact addresses, Education programmes, calendars, etc.

vii        Performing other functions assigned by the Director

Internship & Induction Division

  1. Overseeing all the activities and duties of the division to ensure efficient discharge of duties by staff of the division.
  2. Processing and producing all necessary correspondences relating to the Teachers Investigation Panel (TIP) and the Teachers Tribunal.
  • Planning and organisation of Internship and Induction for graduating teachers.
  1. Ensuring the enforcement of teachers’ professional standards.
  2. Liaising with state coordinators to ascertain and process their operating needs.
  3. Ensuring timely movement of registration forms and other operational materials to and from state offices.
  • Taking charge of the storage and security of registration materials in addition to maintaining records to show quantity procured, used and balance.
  • Managing the Council’s relationship with teacher union and associations.
  1. Conducting induction for education graduating student
  2. Writing of academic paper and speeches.
  3. Performing other functions assigned by the Director Regulation, Accreditation & Enforcement.

Education Officer 1

  1. Assisting the head of division in overseeing the activities and duties of the division.
  2. Issuing of publicity materials and holding interactive sessions with stakeholder to create awareness and sensitization on TRCN programmes.
  • Treating correspondences relating to the Teachers Investigating Panel and the Teachers Tribunal
  1. Attending to all inquiries by teachers and other stakeholders on the activities of the Council.
  2. Taking part in monitoring and evaluation of State offices
  3. Following up of certificate/license production for induction students
  • Assisting in induction for education graduating student
  • Performing other tasks assigned by the head of Division.

Teacher Training; Promotion and Evaluation

  1. Overseeing all the activities and duties of the division to ensure efficient discharge of duties by staff of the division.
  2. Develop guideline on teacher evaluation interview and promotion.
  • Ensure/ plan advocacy meeting letters to teachers’ employers and stakeholders.
  1. Produce teacher assessment framework/ review the existing document.
  2. Develop tools for validation of assessment framework.
  3. Creating, updating and maintaining the database of teachers’ employers.
  • Engagement with State Coordinators on report and liaison on recruitment, evaluation and promotion exercise
  • Building of robust data base for facilitators and other significant others
  1. Production of training manual for programmes

Education Officer1

  1. Assisting the head of division in overseeing the activities and duties of the division.
