TRCN Registrar/CEO: Professor Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye

Professor Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye has taken over as the substantive Registrar/Chief Executive, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, (TRCN). The takeover ceremony took place immediately after his official inauguration by the Hon. Minister of Education, Mal. Adamu Adamu, at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, Nigeria. The Ogbomoso born Professor of Social Studies & Environmental Education, from the University of Ibadan, was duly received by the immediate past Registrar/Chief Executive of the Council, Professor Addison-Mark Wokocha, on arrival at the Council Headquarters. In his welcome address, Prof. Wokocha assured the incumbent Registrar/CEO, Prof. Ajiboye, that the Council was blessed with capable hands that would help him transform his visions into realities within the shortest possible time. He further advised the incumbent to start work as a matter of urgency on projects that would impact positively on the professional lives of the Nigerian teachers.

The former Registrar however, noted that the major problem of the Council had remained poor funding. He therefore advised the incumbent to also work out a plan of action that would raise the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the Council. “Once the IGR is improved upon, the lack of fund would automatically seize from being a major factor militating against the progress of the council.” He noted.

In his response, the incumbent Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye, commended the immediate past Registrar/CEO for his efforts at restoring the lost glory of the Nigerian teachers. His words, “I have followed the activities of TRCN in the last eight years as an expert in the education sector, and I have observed that you and your team have worked tirelessly towards achieving set goals. On this note, I am proud to say to you that you have written your names in Gold in the history of TRCN and the education sector at large. For this reason Prof., you will ever be respected and appreciated.”

He therefore called for the support of all staff towards repositioning the TRCN. According to him, “I am here to lead a team of progressives; a team that is committed, focused, transparent, hardworking and selfless. The word ’TEAM’ means the following:

T-Together
E-Each
A-Achieve
M-More

We have to put more efforts in our individual capacities towards achieving more of the mandates of the Council.”The TRCN Boss enjoined State Coordinators to embark on massive recruitment of Teachers to Register with TRCN, adding that, the Council will not relent in her efforts towards ensuring that every qualified teacher in the country is duly registered, certified and licensed by TRCN.

Prof. Ajiboye stated that the Council would do a State by State analysis of the number of teachers already registered, certified and licensed across the country. This, he said, would help in the production of reliable statistical data of teachers in the country within the shortest possible time.

He therefore assured the Council’s staff that a reward mechanism would be put in place to appreciate exceptional performances at all areas of the Council’s activities. “We shall prioritize the Mandatory Professional Development Programme for teachers across the Country. We shall also flush out quacks from the teaching profession.” he stressed, adding that the mandates of the Council must be the guide in repositioning TRCN.

The University Don, who was inaugurated alongside 16 other Chief Executives of Agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education, affirmed the need for TRCN to be fully involved in the proposed recruitment of 500, 000 teachers by the Federal Government. His words,” We must be fully involved in the entire recruitment process so that the quality of persons to be recruited through the scheme as teachers is ascertained.”

Professor Ajiboye therefore called for the full support of the management team of the Council in his quest to foster the needed development in line with the change mantra of the present administration. He therefore carried out a familiarization tour of the TRCN Headquarters, Abuja, identifying their challenges and work conditions through one-on-one interactions with staff.

The Director, Professional Operations Department of the Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Roni, speaking on behalf of the management team assured the incumbent Registrar/Chief Executive of the Council, Prof. Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye of their unalloyed support towards helping the Registrar/CEO to drive the growth of TRCN in the interest of Nigerian teachers and Nigeria at large.
